The caricature - who I like to call Rockin' Rhapsody Roy (required element in one of my courses) was developed by taking photographs of consumer products at a local Best Buy store. I then clipped the individual elements out in Photoshop, merged them into one image and added appropriate accessories and background to create a realistic-looking final product.
I had a lot of fun creating him and find the animated version a fun and lively character. The animation itself in this case is a GIF animation - and would be far smoother and easier to control in Flash, but this was created prior to my knowledge of Flash. Gif animations are often associated with those little waving flags and tacky animated elements you find on some websites. They do have their place though and work with most browsers and require no additional software like Flash. Most portable devices that have internet access can view them, so if you need a compact motion element, a GIF animation may be a good tool to use.
Contact Cameron Graphix if you wish to add a motion element to your web site.
